Junior honored as one of nation’s best shortstops
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns junior Jalin Flores was selected to the 2025 Brooks Wallace Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced Friday.
The prestigious award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Flores has started all 36 games at shortstop for No. 1 Texas, batting .274 with nine home runs and 38 RBI.
The San Antonio, Texas, native paces the Longhorns in doubles (16), extra-base hits (25) and multi-RBI performances (13), while ranking second on the club in RBI and total bases (83).
As of April 18, Flores sits second in the Southeastern Conference in doubles, trailing only Florida's Colby Shelton (18).
With his go-ahead two-run homer at Kentucky on April 12, Flores matched Drew Stubbs (2004-06) and Eric Kennedy (2019-23) for the eight-most career home runs (31) in program history.
