Longhorns one of three SEC programs to have multiple honorees
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas hurlers Max Grubbs and Dylan Volantis were selected to the National Pitcher of the Year Award watch list, the College Baseball Foundation announced Friday.
The Longhorns are one of just three SEC programs to have multiple honorees among the 54 pitchers listed.
After emerging as Texas' ace a year ago, Grubbs has shifted into a key bullpen arm for the Longhorns.
Across his first 12 outings this season, the right-hander has allowed six earned runs over 36 innings.
The junior's 1.50 ERA leads all qualified SEC pitchers (min. 36 inn.), while his six wins are tied for second in the conference.
In his first year on The Forty Acres, Volantis has made a name for himself.
The 6-foot-6, 212-pound southpaw has yielded only four earned runs in 33 1/3 frames, posting a 1.08 ERA and nine saves.
In league play, Volantis has allowed just one run across 18 1/3 innings en route to being tabbed the SEC Freshman of the Week twice.
