Sophomore tallied five homers and 2.188 OPS during 4-0 stretch
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns standout Will Gasparino garnered National Co-Hitter of the Week honors, as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Gasparino — who was also tabbed Southeastern Conference Player of the Week — totaled a .553 average with five home runs, 13 RBI and a 2.188 OPS across the Longhorns' 4-0 stretch, highlighted by a sweep at Missouri.
The 6-foot-6, 225-pound outfielder left the yard in three of the four contests, recording two multi-homer efforts and three multi-hit performances.
After finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI double and a solo shot against Sam Houston, Gasparino joined elusive company in Texas' series opener against Missouri.
Gasparino smacked a pair of a three-run blasts and plated eight runs to become only the fourth Longhorn with eight RBI in a game since 2008, matching Brandon Belt (2008), Porter Brown (2023) and Eric Kennedy (2023).
In the front leg of the doubleheader Saturday, the sophomore homered twice more and drove in each of Texas' final three runs.
Gasparino punctuated the weekend by reaching safely three times, extending his on-base streak to 19 games.
The Los Angeles native is the first Longhorn to collect national recognition this season.
