Left-hander helped Longhorns secure first sweep over top-3 team since 2019
AUSTIN, Texas — For the second time in the last three weeks, University of Texas standout Dylan Volantis was tabbed Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Volantis also garnered weekly conference distinction on March 24.
The 6-foot-6, 212-pound hurler appeared twice, earning a save and win against No. 3 Georgia to help the Longhorns secure their first sweep over a top-3 team in more than six years.
Across his two outings, Volantis notched nine strikeouts over 5 1/3 scoreless innings against college baseball's second-most prolific offense.
On Friday, he recorded the final four outs on only eight pitches to register his seventh save and lock down the 5-1 series-opening victory.
Two days later, Volantis retired 12 of the 14 batters he faced to set the stage for the Longhorns' 4-3 walk-off win.
The southpaw tallied a career-high eight strikeouts in four shutout innings, yielding just one hit.
In conference play, Volantis has not allowed a run across 13 1/3 frames. The freshman has posted a 1-0 mark with six saves, while issuing only two walks and 20 strikeouts over his first seven SEC appearances.
The Thousand Oaks, Calif., native is one of five Texas players to have collected SEC weekly accolades in 2025: sophomore Luke Harrison (Feb. 17), Adrian Rodriguez (Feb. 17), Will Gasparino (March 31) and Ruger Riojas (March 31).
