No. 4 Men’s Golf in third after second day at NCAA Reno Regional

Luke Potter is tied for second at 3-under overall, and the tournament was unable to complete the second round on Tuesday.
RENO, Nevada — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team is in third place at the conclusion of play on Tuesday evening in the NCAA Reno Regional at Montreux Golf and Country Club. Junior Luke Potter is in a tie for second place in the individual standings at 3-under overall, just three strokes off the lead.
Due to snowfall in the Reno area in the morning, Tuesday's action did not begin until 2 p.m. Central (Noon Pacific). First-round play, which was unable to start until 6 p.m. Central (4 p.m. Pacific) on Monday due to high winds, was completed around 5:15 p.m. Central (3:15 p.m. Pacific) on Tuesday. Second-round play began at 6 p.m. Central (4 p.m. Pacific), and the tournament field was able to complete between 13-to-16 holes before play was officially suspended at 10 p.m. Central (8 p.m. Pacific).
The NCAA Reno Regional features 14 teams and five individual players. The top five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Longhorns are currently at even-par as a team through 14-16 holes in their second round. BYU holds the overnight lead at 5-under through 13-14 holes, while No. 9 Virginia is in second at 4-under through 14-16 holes. Texas is 12 strokes above the cut line, as San Diego is in sixth place at 12-over through 13-14 holes.
In the opening round, Texas counted scores from Potter (1-under 71), junior Christiaan Maas (even-par 72), junior Tommy Morrison (even-par 72) and freshman Daniel Bennett (5-over 77) to register a team score of 4-over 292 and rest in fourth place, six strokes behind 18-hole leader Virginia (2-under 286). During Tuesday's second round, the Longhorns have recorded a team score of 4-under while being led by Potter (2-under through 15 holes) and Morrison (2-under through 14 holes).
Paul Chang of Virginia holds the individual lead at 6-under overall through 15 holes in his second round completed. Potter is among a group of four players tied for second at 3-under overall that also includes Matthew Diehl (Grand Canyon), Dane Huddleston (Utah Valley) and Peter Kim (BYU).
The NCAA Reno Regional will resume second-round play on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Central (8:30 a.m. Pacific), and the tournament will conclude with the final round on Wednesday afternoon.

During his opening round which started on hole 2, Potter carded four birdies (holes 10, 13, 15 and 1) against three bogeys while posting a 1-under 71. He tallied five birdies (holes 3, 4, 5, 9 and 10) in his second round before play was suspended.
- Junior Tommy Morrison is tied for sixth at 2-under overall through 14 holes completed in his second round. He recorded an even-par 72 in his opening round. Starting on hole 3, Morrison carded four birdies (holes 5, 6, 9 and 14) against two bogeys during his second round before play was suspended.
- Junior Christiaan Maas is tied for 15th at even-par through 14 holes completed in his second round. He registered an even-par 72 in his opening round. Starting on hole 1, Maas tallied three birdies (holes 5, 11 and 12) against three bogeys in his second round before play was suspended.
- Freshman Daniel Bennett is tied for 36th at 5-over through 16 holes completed in his second round. He recorded a 5-over 77 in his opening round. Starting on hole 1, Bennett made one birdie (hole 6) against one bogey along with 14 pars during his second round before play was suspended.
- Sophomore Jack Gilbert is tied for 48th at 8-over through 15 holes completed in his second round. He registerd an 8-over 80 in his opening round. Starting on hole 3, Gilbert made one birdie (hole 9) against one bogey along with 13 pars in his second round before play was suspended.
