No. 2 Baseball comes up short against UTSA, 9-7

Longhorns to face No. 3 seed Kansas State in elimination game on Sunday
AUSTIN, Texas — The top-seeded University of Texas baseball team fell to second-seeded UTSA, 9-7, in front of 7,953 fans on Saturday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (43-13) used a five-run third to race out to an early 6-1 lead, but the Roadrunners (46-13) mounted seven runs in the middle innings to grab control.
UTSA scored four times in the fifth before notching three tallies in the sixth, sparked by second baseman Nathan Hodge. The freshman delivered a two-RBI single, pulling the visitors within, 6-3.
After a base hit put men on the corners, the Roadrunners were in motion and Hodge scampered home on the throw down to second base.
Right fielder James Taussig capped off the four-run frame with a double, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
In the sixth, the Longhorns were able to record the first two outs on as many pitches, but UTSA strung together five straight baserunners to take the lead.
Hodge registered a game-tying single and center fielder Mason Lytle followed with the go-ahead knock.
Designated hitter Garrett Gruell added an RBI double to extend the advantage to 8-6.
The Roadrunners turned to right-hander Braylon Owens (3), who tossed four innings of one-run baseball. Owens' lone blemish came in the seventh, as Texas catcher Rylan Galvan smacked his team-leading 15th homer.
Galvan's solo shot brought the Longhorns within one swing, but Owens slammed the door to send the Roadrunners to the regional final.
Texas righty Max Grubbs (6-2) was tagged with the loss. Grubbs allowed two runs across 1 1/3 frames in relief of left-handed starter Luke Harrison.
In the defeat, four Longhorns totaled multi-hit efforts, highlighted by Galvan and left fielder Jonah Williams. Williams roped a two-RBI single as part of Texas' crooked number in the third.
With the loss, Texas will meet No. 3 seed Kansas State in an elimination game Sunday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk field.
