Baseball’s Volantis selected as unanimous Freshman All-American

Southpaw is one of two relievers named to D1Baseball’s first team
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas left-hander Dylan Volantis was tabbed a unanimous Freshman All-American, after garnering first-team honors from D1Baseball on Monday.
Volantis also earned first-team distinction from Baseball America, the NCBWA and Perfect Game.
The Baseball America National Freshman of the Year paced all rookies in Division I in WHIP (0.88) and saves (12), while checking in second in ERA (1.94) and B/AVG (.185).
Volantis registered 74 strikeouts and issued 12 walks across 51 innings.
The 6-foot-6, 212-pound hurler tied for 10th nationally in saves.
In league play, the SEC Freshman of the Year led all pitchers in ERA (1.59), WHIP (0.85), B/AVG (.160) and saves (11).
Volantis' 11 saves in conference action are the most by an SEC freshman ever, breaking a 22-year-old record held by Ole Miss' Steven Head.
