AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas junior Max Belyeu was selected in the Competitive Balance Round B (No. 74 overall) by the Colorado Rockies in the 2025 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Sunday evening.
One of the most prolific hitters in college baseball, Belyeu notched a .318 average with 27 home runs and 84 RBI across three seasons on The Forty Acres.
Despite missing 26 contests due to a thumb injury in 2025, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound slugger reached safely in 30 of his 32 games played. Belyeu slashed .303/.410/.576 with nine homers and 29 RBI, following up a breakout All-American campaign.
As a sophomore, the Aledo, Texas, native was tabbed the Big 12 Player of the Year after pacing the Longhorns in slugging (.667), OPS (1.090) and multi-RBI performances (15), while matching the team lead in home runs (18).
With Belyeu's selection, at least one Longhorn has been picked every year since the MLB draft began in 1965.
The 2025 MLB First-Year Player Draft continues with rounds 4-20 at 10:30 a.m. Monday. MLB.com will stream the final 17 rounds.
