Men’s Golf signs Matt Comegys

Former Texas 6A state champion earned All-Central Region honors as a sophomore at Texas Tech in 2023-24.
AUSTIN, Texas — Matt Comegys has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play golf next season at The University of Texas, head coach John Fields announced Tuesday. Comegys, who spent the last three years at Texas Tech University, will join the Longhorns in 2025-26 and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
"We are thrilled to welcome Matt to the Forty Acres," Fields said. "He is an outstanding young man, an exceptional student and a really fine and experienced golfer. Matt will add to our maturity as a team and continue our quest for a National Championship."
Comegys took a medical redshirt last season (2024-25) while recovering from left wrist surgery. As a sophomore at Texas Tech in 2023-24, he earned PING All-Central Region Team honors and tied for second on the team in scoring average (71.8). A GCAA All-American Scholar and Academic All-Big 12 selection, Comegys participated in 12 of the team's 13 events and recorded three top-10 finishes and seven top-20 showings. Nineteen (19) of his 37 rounds were par or better, including nine rounds in the 60s. He registered a season-best tie for fourth at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate with a 17-under 199 (63-68-68).
During his freshman year in 2022-23, Comegys played in 11 events and posted a 72.61 stroke average. Eleven (11) of his 28 rounds were par or better, including five rounds in the 60s. Comegys registered a season-best tie for fourth at the Prestige Invitational with an even-par 216 (70-73-73).
A native of Van Alstyne, Texas, Comegys was the consensus top-ranked player in the state of Texas in the class of 2022 and ranked in the top 10 nationally by Junior Golf Scoreboard and GolfWeekly. While at Plano West Senior High School (Plano, Texas), he won the 2022 Class 6A UIL Texas state individual title as a senior. Comegys was a two-time UIL Texas regional champion (2021 and 2022), qualified for the 2022 U.S. Amateur and advanced to the Round of 16 in match play at the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur. He also recorded multiple wins on the Legends Junior Golf Tour.
