Graduate Matt Comegys tied for second individually at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational with a 5-under 205.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas graduate student Matt Comegys has been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks Comegys' first career weekly SEC honor, and he shared the accolade with LSU's Arni Sveinsson.
Comegys tied for second individually at the prestigious OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational on Sept. 19-21 (Friday-Sunday). He posted a 54-hole total of 5-under 205 (69-68-68) to finish just one stroke behind tourney medalist Tim Wiedemeyer of Texas Tech at 6-under 204.
The tie for second in the individual standings marked a collegiate career-best finish for Comegys. He twice previously tied for fourth during his time at Texas Tech. The 15-team tournament field at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational featured 10 squads in the top 20 of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches preseason poll.
Comegys and the No. 3 Longhorns are back in action on Sept. 29-30 (Monday-Tuesday) at the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational presented by Charles Schwab at historic Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
