No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving earns five medals on day three of the SEC Championships

The Longhorns earned their third gold medal and eighth overall of the 2026 SEC Championships behind record-breaking performances from Nate Germonprez and Hubert Kos.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 1 Men's Swimming and Diving secured its eighth podium finish of the competition and third gold medal on day three of the 2026 SEC Championships following record-breaking victories from Nate Germonprez in the 100-yard breaststroke (49.92) and Hubert Kos in the 100-yard backstroke (43.86) on Wednesday evening at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
During the 100-yard backstroke prelims, Hubert Kos broke a 13-year-old facility record held by SwimMAC's Nick Thoman (44.07), touching first in 43.87 to advance to the championship final. Will Modglin also secured a finals berth with a time of 44.16.
In the championship final, Kos lowered his own record by .01, posting a title-winning 43.86. Modglin earned silver and joined Kos on the podium with a 44.00, trimming .16 from his prelim time.
Texas saw additional medals when Kyle Peck earned a third-place victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:40.42.
Nate Germonprez, during the 100-yard breaststroke prelims, broke a four-year-old facility record previously held by Alabama's Derek Maas by notching a time of 50.05. Additionally, Campbell McKean advanced to the championship final with a fourth-place overall time of 51.65.
In the title race, Germonprez lowered his own facility record, claiming gold in 49.92. McKean followed with a third-place finish in 50.42, earning a podium spot and boosting the Longhorns' position in the team standings.
Following day three, Texas moved into first place with 470.5 points, ahead of Florida's 462.
Day four of the 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships begins at 8:30 a.m. CT on Thursday, Feb. 19, with prelims in the 100-yard butterfly, 400 IM and 200-yard freestyle. The women's 3-meter springboard prelims are set for 11 a.m. CT, followed by the consolation final.
The evening session starts at 4:30 p.m. CT with finals in the 100-yard butterfly, 400 IM and 200-yard freestyle, along with the women's 3-meter final and the 400-yard medley relay. All sessions will stream live on SEC Network+.
