No. 1 Men’s Swimming and Diving in the lead after day five of SEC Championships

Germonprez breaks his own conference record in the 200-yard breaststroke and Texas holds a 54.5-point advantage after Friday's action.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 1 Texas Men's Swimming and Diving completed day five of the SEC Championships with eight gold medals and 15 total podium finishes, highlighted by Nate Germonprez breaking his own conference record in the 200-yard breaststroke. Texas leads the team standings with 1,110.5 points, ahead of No. 4 Florida with 1,056, while No. 9 Tennessee sits third at 840.5. The Longhorns continue to pace the field through Friday evening at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Texas opened the evening session in record-breaking fashion as Nate Germonprez shattered teammate Will Scholz's Southeastern Conference record of 1:49.59 with a championship time of 1:48.94 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Germonprez was joined on the podium by Campbell McKean, who placed third in 1:51.03, while Scholz finished fifth in 1:52.12.
Additionally, Garrett Gould advanced to the championship final in the 50-yard freestyle and finished seventh with a time of 18.92. The Longhorns also notched a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with efforts contributed by Gould, Rafael Fente-Damers, Hubert Kos and Kyle Peck delivering a time of 1:26.62, improving on their seeded time of 1:26.88.
The Longhorns earned their final medal of the night as Rex Maurer captured gold in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:08.46, improving on his previous mark of 4:12.11. Prior to the evening session, Maurer was recognized as the men's recipient of the 2026 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.
The 2026 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships conclude Saturday, Feb. 21. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. CT with prelims in the 200-IM, 100-freestyle and 200-backstroke. Women's platform prelims are scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, followed by the consolation final. The evening session starts at 4:30 p.m. CT with finals in the 200-IM, 100-freestyle and 200-backstroke, along with the championship final in women's platform and the 400-freestyle relay. All sessions will stream live on SEC Network+.
