This year’s edition of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown features a top-15 matchup at McCombs Field on March 27-29.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Softball welcomes longtime rival No. 15 Texas A&M to McCombs Field for this year's edition of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown on March 27-29. First pitch for Friday's series opener is at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+ with David Saltzman and Amanda Scarborough on the call. Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN2, and Sunday's series finale will begin at 1 p.m. on ESPN. Matt Schumacker and Amanda Scarborough will be in the booth for Saturday and Sunday's games.
Notes
- The Longhorns have won a program-record 27-consecutive games, dating back to their third game of the season. Texas broke the previous program record win streak of 24 games that was set by the 2006 team. Texas' 27-game win streak leads the nation as well.
- The Longhorns are 8-0 on the road this season, the fifth-longest streak in the country.
- Freshman RHP Hannah Wells earned her first career SEC weekly honor after being named the SEC's Freshman of the Week on March 24.
- Texas jumped up to No. 1 across all four major polls this week in ESPN.com/USA Softball, NFCA, D1Softball and Softball America. Texas has been ranked in 66-consecutive NFCA Coaches polls.
- Texas has accumulated 16 run-rule victories this season, including four-consecutive against Power Four competition.
- Texas is fresh off of the program's first Women's College World Series (WCWS) National Championship in 2025. The Longhorns finished the historic season with a program-record 56 victories and a 56-12 overall record.
- The Longhorns' 10-2 postseason run in 2025 culminated with a 2-1 Championship Series (third appearance in four years) win over Texas Tech. In the winner-takes-all game three, the Longhorns clinched a 10-4 victory.
- Head coach Mike White is in his eighth season at helm of the Texas program and holds a 345-94-2 (.785) overall record during his time on the Forty Acres. In 17 combined seasons between Oregon (nine seasons) and Texas (eight seasons), White sports a 781-205-4 (.791) overall record.
- Last time out, Texas clinched its 27th win in a row with a 3-2 victory on the road at Texas State on March 25.
- 26 players between the two teams are from the state of Texas. Each program has 13 native Texans on its roster.
Rivalry Renewed
- Once longtime conference foes, Texas and Texas A&M will meet for the 51st time in history on Friday.
- Texas leads the all-time series, 26-24, including a 15-8 mark at home.
- It'll be the first meeting between the two programs since the 2025 SEC Tournament in Athens, Ga. Texas A&M won that game, 14-2 in five innings.
- It'll be the first meeting in Austin between the two teams since the 2024 Austin Super Regional. Texas A&M won that first game, 6-5, before Texas won game two, 9-8, and game three, 6-5, to advance to the 2024 Women's College World Series.
- Three of the last four meetings have been decided by one run.
- Friday will be the first regular season matchup since the 2012 season.
- Texas and Texas A&M have met 16 times during the postseason, including four times in Oklahoma City.
Grueling Gauntlet
- This weekend's series vs. No. 15 Texas A&M is the start of a gauntlet of a schedule for the Longhorns. Texas will play 13-straight games against ranked opponents, including 12-consecutive games against opponents ranked inside the top-15.
- Texas clashes with No. 15 Texas A&M this weekend and then travels to No. 7 Alabama next weekend on April 2-4.
- Texas returns home to tussle No. 3 Oklahoma on April 10-12 and then goes to No. 11 Georgia on April 18-20. Texas returns to McCombs for a midweek matchup vs. No. 21 Oklahoma State on April 22.
