AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Longhorns standout Carson Tinney was among the 50 players selected to the midseason watch list for the 2026 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, the Wichita State Sports Commission announced Wednesday morning.
Through his first 28 games in burnt orange, Tinney is slashing .293/.441/.545 with seven home runs and 21 RBI. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound catcher paces the Longhorns in walks (23), while ranking third on the club in homers, slugging and OPS (.986).
Behind the plate, Tinney has produced a 1.000 fielding percentage. The junior has thrown out 57.1 percent of attempted base stealers.
As the main batterymate to the Longhorns' pitching staff, Tinney has helped Texas notch the fourth-best ERA (2.93) nationally. The Longhorns also sit seventh in WHIP (1.15).
Tinney is aiming to become the first Buster Posey/Johnny Bench National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award winner in program history.
Last season, Texas backstop Rylan Galvan was named a finalist for the award, joining Taylor Teagarden (2005) as the lone Longhorns to be invited to the Greater Wichita Sports Banquet.
