Catcher collects second career national weekly distinction
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas standout Carson Tinney was selected as the Perfect Game Co-Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.
Tinney shared the prestigious honor with Miami (OH)'s Tommy Harrison. It marks his second career national weekly distinction, after collecting NCBWA Dick Howser Trophy National Co-Hitter of the Week on April 22, 2025, during his sophomore campaign at Notre Dame.
The 6-foot-4, 240-pound backstop posted a team-best .538/.625/1.308 slash line with three home runs and 10 RBI in the Longhorns' three-game sweep over Missouri.
Tinney launched three blasts in a four at-bat span, punctuating the stretch with a 456-foot grand slam over the 32-foot "Monster" at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
With his second grand slam of the year, the junior became just the fifth Texas player to register 20 home runs in a single season.
On Friday, Tinney mounted his seventh career multi-homer effort and notched a career-high six RBI. He capped off the series by reaching safely five times, delivering three hits and three RBI.
Tinney is one of seven Longhorns to earn national weekly accolades in 2026, alongside Ethan Mendoza (Feb. 17), Aiden Robbins (Feb. 24, April 14), Temo Becerra (March 3), Ruger Riojas (March 10), Sam Cozart (March 10) and Casey Borba (March 17).
