2026 MLB First-Year Player Draft starts Saturday

At least one Longhorn has been selected every year since the MLB Draft began in 1965
AUSTIN, Texas — Several Texas Longhorns student-athletes are expected to hear their names called in the 2026 MLB First-Year Player Draft, which is set for July 11-12, 2026 in Philadelphia.
The 20-round draft begins at 12 p.m. on Saturday, with NBC, Peacock, MLB Network and MLB.com providing coverage. The draft concludes with rounds 5-20 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. MLB.com will stream the final 16 rounds.
Texas has 378 all-time picks, the most by any SEC school, highlighted by 43 first-round selections. At least one Texas player has been drafted every year since the MLB Draft began in 1965.
MLB.com listed four Longhorns in the top 250 prospects heading into the 2026 draft, with outfielder Aiden Robbins leading the way at No. 29. Meanwhile, catcher Carson Tinney checked in at No. 73 and right-handed pitcher Ruger Riojas was slotted at No. 92. Right-hander Thomas Burns rounded out the quartet at No. 221.
