Ben King is in his first season on the Longhorns' coaching staff. He aids assistant coach Skip Johnson with mentoring the UT pitching staff and serves as the first base coach.
King was a two-year letterwinner at Texas after transferring from the University of Alabama. In his 2001, King batted .312 with 45 runs, 14 doubles, five triples, five home runs and 49 RBI. He was also named to the All-Tournament team at the Astros College Baseball Classic and was tabbed co-Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Palo Alto Regional. King missed the entire 2002 campaign with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. While injured, he served as first base coach on UT's College World Series championship run. In 2000, King hit .294 with 51 runs, seven doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 50 RBI, earning Freshman All-America honors at Alabama.
The New York Yankees selected King in the 20th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. King made minor league stops with the Fargo-Moorhead Red Hawks, Staten Island Yankees, Calgary Vipers, the San Angelo Colts and Clearwater Phillies.
