Holland takes sixth at Western Refining All-American Classic

EL PASO, Texas -- Texas junior All-American Charlie Holland fired an even-par 71 and finished in a tie for sixth place Tuesday at the Western Refining All-American Classic at the 6,842-yard El Paso Country Club.
Oklahoma State's Trent Leon and Marquette's Mike Van Sickle tied for medalist honors at six-under par in the 27-player, individual-only event.
Holland (Dallas, Texas) entered the final round tied for third place at two-under par. He birdied the second hole and added another at the par-five, 534-yard ninth hole to finish with a 35 on the front nine. Holland birdied the 18th hole and finished with a 36 on the back nine. He finished his round at even par to tie for sixth overall at two-under par.
Each school with a player participating in the Western Refining All-American Classic receives a $1,000 scholarship. Holland was the only player representing a school from the state of Texas.
Holland and the Longhorns resume competition on Feb. 27, 2009, at the Puerto Rico Collegiate.
