LAS VEGAS -- Texas junior All-American Charlie Holland led the Longhorns with a one-over 73 in the final round of the 15-team Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship Sunday afternoon at the par 72, 7,510-yard Southern Highlands Golf Club.
The Longhorns carded a 12-over 300 on the day and finished the 54-hole event in 13th place with a 41-over 905 for the tournament. Host UNLV rallied to win the event by one stroke over 36-hole leader Oklahoma State. Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale took medalist honors with an 11-under 205.
Holland continued his tournament-long improvement and saved his lowest round for last with his one-over 73. Holland tied for 39th place with a nine-over 225 for the tournament. Sophomore Bobby Hudson joined Holland in a tie for 39th after carding a six-over 78 on Sunday and finishing at nine-over for the tournament.
Sophomore Donald Constable carded a five-over 77 and ended the event tied for 48th place with an 11-over 227. Junior Lance Lopez equaled Holland's one-over 73 on Sunday and tied for 57th place with a 13-over 229. Freshman Dylan Frittelli finished with a five-over 77 in the final round and ended the event tied for 67th place with a 17-over 233.
"Unfortunately, we were not on our game this week," UT coach John Fields said. "It's difficult to take for the entire team and coaching staff. Charlie Holland and Lance Lopez played solid today, but everyone needs to be on their game if we want to compete with the top 10."
Texas resumes play on Sunday, March 22 at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
