No. 10 Men's Golf sits in third after opening round of Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational

Round 1 Results
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. -- Behind an even-par 70 from junior Bobby Hudson, Texas (No. 10 Golfweek/No. 23 GolfWorld) finished with a 12-over 292 in round one of the 15-team Olympia Fields Fighting Illini Invitational at the par 70, 7,205-yard Olympia Fields Country Club.
Texas holds third place after round one and sits six shots back of 18-hole leader Northwestern. Florida State is two shots off of the lead in second place at eight-over par. Northwestern's Eric Chun, Florida State's Seath Lauer and Arizona State's Scott Pinckney are tied for the individual lead at two-under par.
Hudson (Memphis, Tenn.) opened with a 34 on the front nine behind birdies at the fourth and ninth holes. He added a birdie at the 12th hole and finished with a 36 on the back to end round one in a tie for fifth place with an even-par 70. Freshman Cody Gribble shot a three-over 73 in his collegiate debut. Gribble (Dallas, Texas) birdied his very first collegiate hole at No. 1 and made the turn with a 37. Gribble added a birdie at the 11th hole and finished with a 36 on the back nine. Gribble is tied for 21st place heading into Saturday's second round.
Sophomore Brett Spencer carded a 39 on the front nine before rebounding with a 34 on the back behind birdies at the 12th, 14th and 17th holes. Spencer (Plano, Texas) joins Gribble in a tie for 21st place at three-over par. Senior Charlie Holland made the turn with a 36 behind birdies at the third and fourth holes. He finished with a 40 on the back nine to end round one in a tie for 43rd place with a six-over 76.
Sophomore Adam Wennerstrom shot an eight-over 78 and sank birdies at the fourth and 18th holes. Wennerstrom (Austin, Texas) is tied for 60th place heading into round two.
Texas tees off in round two on Saturday at 9:20 a.m. Central.
