WINDERMERE, Fla. -- Texas shot a 10-over 298 in the final round and moved up three spots in the final team standings, as the Longhorns placed ninth at the 15-team Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Tuesday at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club.
Texas finished at 40-over par in the 54-hole event. Alabama won the team title at 20-over par, and LSU placed second at 22-over par. Stanford and Florida tied for third place at 30-over par. TCU and Oklahoma State tied for fifth place at 31-over par. Florida's Bank Vongvanij took individual medalist honors at 4-under par. Texas was without the services of 2010 Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Dylan Frittelli, who is representing his native South Africa this week at the World Amateur Team Championship in Argentina.
UT senior Bobby Hudson (Memphis, Tenn.) saved his finest round for last on Tuesday, as he fired a 1-over 73, the low round of the day for the Longhorns, with five birdies on the day. Hudson tied for 16th place overall at 7-over par. Sophomore Cody Gribble (Dallas, Texas) carded a 2-over 74 behind birdies at the 10th, 12th, third and seventh holes. Gribble tied for 26th place at 10-over par for the tournament.
Junior Alex Moon (Plano, Texas) carded a 5-over 77 with birdies at the 11th, 12th and 16th holes in the final round. Moon placed 32nd overall at 11-over par. Finishing off his third career collegiate appearance, sophomore Julio Vegas (Maturin, Venezuela) carded a tournament-best 2-over 74 in the final round with birdies at the 16th and fifth holes. Vegas tied for 33rd place at 12-over par. Junior Johnathan Schnitzer (Houston, Texas) finished with a 10-over 82 in the final round and tied for 68th place at 26-over par.
The Isleworth Collegiate Invitational concludes the fall team schedule for the Longhorns. Frittelli and Gribble will represent UT individually next month at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso.
POST-TOURNAMENT COMMENTS
Texas head coach John Fields
"We had really fine efforts from Julio Vegas, Bobby Hudson, Cody Gribble and Alex Moon this week. Johnathan Schnitzer was off of his game, so we were not as strong as we could have been. We had a top-three finish, an additional top-five finish and a couple of top-10 finishes against the best teams on the best courses this fall. I am pleased, but we all recognize we have tremendous room for improvement."
