Hudson assumes opening round lead at Mauna Lani Invitational

WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i -- Texas junior Bobby Hudson shot a 2-under 70 and claimed a share of the individual lead in Wednesday's opening round of the Mauna Lani Invitational, a 22-team event at the par 72, 6,913-yard north course at the Mauna Lani Resort.
The Longhorns shot a collective 9-over 297 in the opening round and finished the day in tied for sixth place. UCLA leads the event at even-par through 18 holes.
After beginning his round at the 15th hole, Hudson birdied the 16th and 18th holes and later added an eagle at the second hole, a par-five at 521 yards. Hudson added birdies at the fourth and sixth holes en route to his opening round 2-under 70. He is tied for first alongside Texas Tech's Nils Floren, UCLA's Alex Kim, Washington's Nick Taylor and Oregon's Andrew Vijarro.
UT sophomore Dylan Frittelli ended the day tied for 20th place with a 4-over 74, and senior Charlie Holland shot a 3-over 75 to finish the day in a tie for 33rd place. Freshman Johnathan Schnitzer, making his first varsity start, ended round one in a tie for 63rd place after finishing with a 6-over 78. Freshman Cody Gribble carded a 9-over 81 and is tied for 95th place.
Texas tees off in round two on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Central (7:30 a.m. local).
