WINDEMERE, Fla. - The No. 1 Texas Men's Golf team (Golfweek and Golfstat polls) rolled to its third straight victory of the fall season at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Tuesday afternoon while adding first and second-place finishes by freshman Jordan Spieth (65-73-67=205, -11) and senior Dylan Frittelli(73-71-69).
The win marks the first time the Longhorns (278-296-282=856, -8) have won three-straight tournaments since 2002 when they claimed the Morris WilliamsIntercollegiate (March 25-26), U.S. Collegiate Championships (April 5-7), ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational (April 12-13) and Big 12 Championship (April 29-30). Texas has won its last three events (Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, Jack Nicklaus Invitational, Isleworth Collegiate Invitational) by a combined 63 strokes.
Two-time U.S. Junior Amateur Champion Spieth cruised to his first collegiate victorywith a wire-to-wire win at Isleworth Country Club. He notched his second eagle of the tournament - this time on the 573-yard seventh hole - along with four birdies (Nos. 3, 4, 13, 16) and a lone bogey (No. 17) for a final-round 5-under 67. Spieth is the first Texas freshman to earn medalist honors since Frittelli accomplished the same feat at the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 27 - March 1).
Frittelli notched his third runner-up finish of the fall at 3-under 213. After a bogey on the fifth hole, the reigning Big 12 Golfer of the Month found four birdies at Nos. 7, 9, 10 and 13 before making pars on his final five holes.
Junior Julio Vegas(70-73-75) added a season-best finish with a tie for sixth place at 2-over 218. He previously finished eighth in the Jack Nicklaus Invitational and tied for 11th place in the first two events of the season.
Sophomore Toni Hakula (70-79-72=222) and junior Cody Gribble(75-81-73=229) rounded out the Texas team in ties for 20th and 42nd, respectively.
