EL PASO, Texas - Texas senior Dylan Frittelli fired a 4-under-par 67 in Monday's second round of the Western Refining College All-America Classic to take a one-stroke lead after 36 holes at El Paso Country Club. Frittelli (69-67) leads the talent-ridden 27-player field with a 6-under 136.
Frittelli bettered his morning scorecard by two strokes after opening with a 2-under 69 that included four birdies and a double bogey. On the afternoon, Frittelli carded six birdies and a pair of bogeys.
Jordan Spieth - the only freshman in the field - is tied for 13th place at 1-over 143 (71-72).
With a win, Frittelli would become just the second player in Texas history to win the prestigious event. Texas-Ex Randy Simmons last won the event in 1975. The annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic is selected field consisting primarily of All-Americans from the previous season of competition.
Former champions include the likes of PGA TOUT veterans Tiger Woods (Stanford, 1995), Ricky Barnes (Arizona, 2000) and David Duval (Georgia Tech, 1991). Alumni of the event have earned more than $1.3 billion and won 540 events on the PGA Tour.
Frittelli is set to begin Tuesday's final round on the first tee in the final group at 8:40 a.m. Central alongside Jace Long (Missouri, 137 [-5]) and Cory Whitsett (Alabama, 138 [-4]). Spieth will begin his final round on the first tee at 8 a.m.
