LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Senior Dylan Frittelli and freshman Kramer Hickok carded a pair of even-par 72s in the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to lead the No. 1 Texas Men's Golf team Saturday in Las Vegas. Frittelli, a 2012 Ben Hogan Award watch list finalist, is tied for eighth place at 1-under 143 (71-72) while Hickok climbed eight places on the individual leaderboard at 3-over 147.
The Longhorns remain in sixth place in the 15-team field with back-to-back rounds of 292 (584, +8).
Frittelli recorded three birdies and as many bogeys to result in the even-par scorecard. He found birdies on six, 12 and 18 and bogeys on nine, 11 and 17. Frittelli is one of 12 players, including Texas sophomore Toni Hakula (70-73), to remain under par through 36 holes.
Hickok's round also balanced three subpars and three bogeys. After bogeying the second hole, he found birdies on five and 12 before back-to-back bogeys on 14 and 15 pushed him to 1-over. Hickok birdied the par-5 18th like Frittelli and Hakula and is tied for 32nd place entering Sunday's final round.
Freshman Jordan Spieth carded a 3-over 75 and is tied for 48th place at 8-over 151. Senior Alex Moon (80-75=155) also finished the day at 75 and is tied for 61st place.
California (286-287) maintained its first-round lead with a 1-under 287 and holds a six-stroke lead over host UNLV (287-292=579). Texas A&M (288-292) rounds out the top-three teams at 4-over 580.
Texas will play alongside UCLA and Stanford in Sunday's finale. The Longhorns are set to tee off beginning at 11:45 a.m. Central in nine-minute increments off the first tee.
