AUSTIN, Texas -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the selection of Texas Men's Golf senior Dylan Frittelli to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Men's At-Large Team.
One of just three NCAA Division I men's golfers selected to the team, Frittelli earned a third-team selection in the at-large division that includes eligible student-athletes in the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling. Frittelli become the second University of Texas men's golf student-athlete to earn the title of Academic All-American. Jeff Fahrenbruch earned First Team honors in 1997 and was named to the Second Team in 1996. Frittelli was the only Big 12 Conference student-athlete named to a men's At-Large Team.
Frittelli, the NCAA's No. 3-ranked golfer with 11 top-10 finishes in 15 events this season, sank a 30-foot putt with the final stroke of his collegiate career to clinch the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championship for Texas. Behind the three-time senior All-American, the Longhorns won eight tournaments en route to their third championship crown.
Frittelli was also named co-recipient of the 2012 Byron Nelson Award for outstanding academic, athletic and community achievements.
Earning a B.S. in geography last month from Texas, Frittelli picked up his second career Academic All-Big 12 honor in April and was named to the fall Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Frittelli earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America national ballot last month when he was selected to the All-District Team. To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve on their respective teams with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must reach sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution to be eligible.
