Vegas leads No. 2 Men's Golf in first-round action at PING/Golfweek Preview

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Senior Julio Vegas carded a team-best 1-over-par 71 in the opening round of the PING/Golfweek Preview to lead the No. 2 Texas Men's Golf team Sunday afternoon at Capital City Club. As a team, the Longhorns are tied for 10th place at 10-over 290.
Vegas' scorecard included two birdies on the fifth and 12th holes, and three bogeys on nine, 13 and 16 to finish the round tied for 11th place.
Sophomore All-American Jordan Spieth is tied for 26th place at 2-over 72, while senior Cody Gribble is one stroke back and tied for 35th. Freshman Brandon Stone and senior Toni Hakula share 46th place at 4-over 74.
UNLV holds the opening-round lead at 1-over 281, while UCLA is second at 2-over 282. New Mexico, Georgia Tech and San Diego State are in a three-way tie for third place at +7.
Capital City Club's Crabapple Course will play host to the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship in May.
The Longhorns return to action Monday morning at 9:10 a.m. Central off the 10th tee alongside Kent State and Florida State.
