In addition, a trio of Longhorns were named to the Fred Haskins Award Preseason Watch List, including Daniel Bennett, Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison. Trio in Top 10 of PGA TOUR University Class of 2026: Three Texas seniors are in the top 10 of the latest PGA TOUR University Class of 2026 rankings (Sept. 24). Christiaan Maas is tabbed at No. 3 and followed by Tommy Morrison at No. 5 and Luke Potter at No. 9. Texas is the ONLY school to have multiple players in the top 10 of the PGA TOUR University rankings. Introduced in 2020, PGA TOUR University identifies the best players in collegiate golf and provides membership opportunities on PGA TOUR-affiliated tours. In partnership with the World Amateur Golf Ranking, PGA TOUR U ranks players based on the last two years of their collegiate careers. The ranking period for the Class of 2026 began in Week 23 of 2024 and concludes on June 1, 2026, following the final round of stroke play at the 2026 NCAA Championship. The No. 1 player in the final PGA TOUR University Ranking next June will earn PGA TOUR membership. Players ranked No. 2-10 will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for 2026, and players ranked No. 11-25 will earn exempt membership for PGA TOUR Americas Segment II in 2026.
Morrison Shines at Walker Cup: Senior Tommy Morrison did not participate in the team's opener at the Sahalee Players Championship, but he had a very good excuse. He was one of 10 players who competed for the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team on Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club (Pebble Beach, Calif.) in the 50th Walker Cup Match. Morrison posted a 2-1 record at the 2025 Walker Cup and helped the Americans claim a 17-9 victory over Great Britain & Ireland. In Sunday morning's foursomes action, he paired with Auburn's Jackson Koivun and rallied for a 1-up victory over Connor Graham and Tyler Weaver. In Sunday afternoon's singles play, Morrison earned another full point for Team USA with a 3 & 2 win against Niall Shiels Donegan. Morrison is the 12th player in Texas program history to compete for Team USA in the prestigious event. Previous Longhorns to play in the Walker Cup include: Ed White (1936), Tom Kite (1971), Justin Leonard (1993), Brad Elder (1997), David Gossett (1999), Jordan Spieth (2011), Beau Hossler (2015), Doug Ghim (2017), Scottie Scheffler (2017), Cole Hammer (2019 and 2021) and Pierceson Coody (2021).
Runner-up Finish at Sahalee in Opener: Despite playing without Tommy Morrison in the lineup, Texas registered a runner-up team finish at the Sahalee Players Championship on Sept. 6-7 at Sahalee Country Club (Sammamish, Wash.). No. 12 Arizona State earned the team victory with a three-round score of 3-over 867 (295-277-295) to finish just one stroke in front of Texas. The Longhorns posted a 54-hole total of 4-over 868 (288-288-292) to take second, while UCLA placed third at 9-over 873. The 12-team field featured six squads in the top 20 of the Golf Channel Preseason Top 30. Daniel Bennett tied for second in the individual standings at 2-under 214 (72-69-73), just one stroke behind Pepperdine's Brady Siravo at 3-under 213. Christiaan Maas tied for sixth at even-par 216 (72-72-72).

The Fields Factor: Now in his 29th season as head coach at Texas, John Fields has guided the Longhorns to 23 NCAA Championship appearances in his 27 opportunities (no NCAA tourney in 2020 due to COVID-19). Under Fields' leadership, UT has posted 11 top-five and 17 top-15 finishes at the NCAA Championship, including NCAA team titles in 2012 and 2022 and runner-up showings in 2016 and 2019. Prior to his time at Texas, Fields led the University of New Mexico to nine NCAA Championship appearances in 10 seasons (1988-97).
