Hickok fires low final round for No. 2 Men's Golf at Southern Highlands

LAS VEGAS -- Sophomore Kramer Hickok fired a 3-under-par 69 in Sunday's final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters to lead the No. 2 Texas Men's Golf team with a 31st-place individual finish. As a team, the Longhorns (306-302-293=901) also saved their best collective round for last as they carded a 5-over 293 and finished in 12th place on the team leaderboard at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
Playing in Texas' No. 5 position, Hickok (74-80-69=223, -7) led his team in first and final round action with a 74 and 69, respectively. Hickok rebounded from three bogeys over his first seven holes on the back nine with six birdies. Through 54 holes, he sank nine birdies and an eagle on the par-5, 592-yard ninth hole in Friday's opening round.
Freshman Brandon Stone (78-72-74=224) trailed Hickok by one stroke and finished tied for 36th. Junior Toni Hakula (77-74-75=226) and senior Julio Vegas (77-80-75=232) finished tied for 48th and 65th, and junior walk-on Brax McCarthy (78-76-80=234) rounded out the Longhorns in 70th place overall.
California (285-280-291) claimed a 13-stroke victory over the 15-team field at 8-under 856. Alabama (289-286-292) and New Mexico (291-290-288) tied for second place at 5-over 869.
The Longhorns return to action next weekend in the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights CC in Statesboro, Ga.
