No. 4 Men's Golf sits in second place through 36 holes at Augusta State Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team seized ideal conditions Saturday afternoon at Forest Hills Golf Club and fired a field-best 6-under-par 282 in the second round to finish the day in second place through 36 holes. Freshman Brandon Stone led the Longhorns in the second round with a 4-under 68 and is tied for seventh place overall at 2-under 142.
Host Augusta State (283-293=576, E) holds a two-stroke lead over Texas (296-282=578) entering Sunday's finale. In last year's tournament, the Longhorns edged the Jaguars in a two-hole playoff to capture the team title.
Stone's second-round scorecard included five birdies on the sixth, ninth, 11th, 16th and 17 holes to offset a lone bogey at No. 7.
Stone, senior Cody Gribble, junior Toni Hakula and sophomore Kramer Hickok each carded opening-round scores of 74 Saturday morning. Hickok (74-70=144) finished the day two strokes behind Stone in 13th place with a 2-under 70 in the afternoon. Junior walk-on Brax McCarthy (76-69=145) rounded out a trio of Longhorns among the top 15 at 1-over 145 and tied for 14th place.
Gribble (74-75=149) and Hakula (74-77=151) are tied for 32nd and 45th places, respectively.
