QUICK HITS
· Texas has won five straight and 10 of its last 11 games. The Longhorns went undefeated at the Houston College Classic last weekend for just the second time in their eight all-time appearances in the tournament (also 2004).
· Texas has faced the most difficult schedule in the nation so far, according to college baseball site BoydsWorld.com.
· The Longhorns are 5-1 in games decided by two runs or less this season. They are also 5-2 when the opponent scores first, which includes wins over Houston and Sam Houston State last weekend.
· The Horns' pitching staff currently boasts a 1.96 ERA which leads the Big 12. TCU is second with a 2.15 ERA. The Longhorns have surrendered just four earned runs during their five-game winning streak – a stretch of 47 innings – for a 0.77 ERA.
· Texas is currently in the midst of a home stretch where it plays 13 out of 14 games at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns are 5-1 at home and have been at their best defensively, committing just one error in six games (.996 fielding percentage).
· Senior center fielder Mark Payton leads the Big 12 in hits (22), batting average (.458), total bases (33) and on-base percentage (.559). He ranks second in triples (3) and walks (11) and third in slugging (.688).
· Payton has reached base safely in 52 consecutive games dating back to last season, which is tied for the longest streak nationally (also Michael Pritchard of Nebraska).
· With 1,884 career victories, head coach Augie Garrido needs just nine wins to tie Gordon Gillespie for the most wins (1,893) by any college baseball coach at any level. He is already the winningest coach in Division I history.
