A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas dropped two of three games at No. 19 UCLA in its first road series of the season…the Longhorns won the first game 7-5 and dropped the next two 5-4 and 6-3, respectively…Texas had a 7-2 lead entering the ninth on Friday before escaping with the 7-5 win…the Longhorns mounted two comebacks in Saturday's game, but UCLA walked it off in the ninth with a first-pitch home run.
A LOOK AT THE AGGIES—Texas A&M swept its weekend series against Fresno State by a combined 19-6 score, including a 12-1 win on Sunday…the Aggies are on a 10-game win streak overall and a 16-game win streak at home…they've also won 22 straight midweek matchups and are current ranked No.3 on D1Baseball.com.
LAST TIME—Texas and Texas A&M last met in the 2014 NCAA Regional with the Longhorns taking 2 of 3, including the elimination game.
RECOVERY ROAD—Red-shirt sophomore Morgan Cooper made his second start of the season last Tuesday vs. Sam Houston and dominated in 6 shutout innings…he struck out a career-high 8 batters…it was his third app since missing all of 2015 while recovering from elbow surgery.
NEXT UP—The Longhorns welcome Tulane to UFCU Disch-Falk Field in a three-game weekend series.
KEEP ON DEALING—Senior LH Ty Culbreth, who was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Feb 29 for his effort against Stanford, added his third quality start of the season on Saturday at UCLA…he threw 7.1 innings and allowed 3 earned runs while striking out 7 in the game and not issuing a walk…Culbreth ranks second in the Big 12 in strikeouts (29) and first in innings pitched (28.1).
A FAMILY AFFAIR—Familiar last names pepper the Longhorns roster as Kacy Clemens was joined by his brother, Kody, this season…their father, Roger, is a UT and MLB great…Nick Kennedy joined his brother, Ben, on the team this season…Kaleb Denny's father, David, also played at UT and Tate Shaw's brother, Collin. was on the Longhorns roster last season.
