AUSTIN, Texas—Texas Baseball dropped its third straight to No. 12 California, who took an early lead and shut out the Longhorns, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

In the first, Cal's leadoff hitter opened up the game with a long fly ball to left that fell in for a triple. The next batter followed with a sacrifice bunt and the Golden Bears (8-3) were on the board quickly. They managed another run thanks to a hit by pitch and a pair of singles against starter Ty Culbreth but the senior settled in after that.

Culbreth, the reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week, went eight complete for a second straight game and allowed just one other run—a solo homer in the sixth—en route to his first loss of the season. The lefthander allowed six hits and two walks while fanning six, turning in another strong outing.

The Longhorns (5-6) struggled against the Cal pitching again as the Golden Bears combined to allow just three hits in their third shutout victory of the season. California starter Ryan Mason retired 11 of the first 12 Longhorns batters he faced, including 10 straight after a Joe Baker first inning double.

After a Longhorns throwing error kept the ninth inning alive, Cal tacked on three insurance runs to complete the scoring.

Texas and California wrap up the four-game series on Sunday at noon with Connor Mayes (0-1, 3.38) scheduled to pitch for the Longhorns and Matt Ladrech (1-0, 5.00 ERA) expected on the hill for the Golden Bears.
