Ghim leads Men’s Golf into second at Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate

Senior Doug Ghim made seven birdies to close the first round in a tie for first place.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Senior Doug Ghim shot 6-under par to lead Texas Men's Golf into a second-place finish after the first round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate on Friday.
Ghim began his round with a birdie on hole one's par-5 and continued to make four more birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 5-under par.
He made another birdie to kick off the back nine on 10's par-4 and another on 14 to sit at 7-under. He made a bogey on 17, but made a par on 18 to close the round with a 6-under 66 for his lowest round of the season.
Ghim is tied for first with Oklahoma State's Matthew Wolff and Georgia Tech's Chris Petefish.
Freshman Kristoffer Reitan, sophomore Nick Costello and sophomore Spencer Soosman all tied for 25th at 1-under 71.
Reitan made three birdies and six-straight pars on the back nine, while Costello made five birdies and two bogeys and Soosman made two birdies and a bogey.
Senior Scottie Scheffler finished even at 72, picking up 3 birdies and 2 bogeys on the front nine and notching seven-straight on the back nine.
All five Texas players finished at or under par.
The Longhorns sit two strokes behind leader Oklahoma State, who leads at 11-under par.
Texas will tee off for the second round on Saturday, Oct. 21, beginning at 8:40 a.m. CT with UNLV and Wake Forest.
