Boswell homers twice as Baseball shuts out Oklahoma State, 7-0, for series win

Morgan Cooper pitched seven scoreless and struck out 11 to help Texas to its first road series win of the year.
STILLWATER, Okla.—After holding off Oklahoma State in game one of Friday's doubleheader matchup, Texas Baseball used two Bret Boswell homers and seven scoreless innings from Morgan Cooper to shut out the Cowboys, 7-0, for the Longhorns' first road series win of the season.
Ryan Reynolds worked an eight-pitch walk with one out in the second inning before Boswell homered to left-center to put the Longhorns on the board in game two.
Boswell, who drove in a pair of runs in game one on Friday, came back in the third inning for more. With Travis Jones and Reynolds aboard and two away, Boswell launched the 1-1 offering from Oklahoma State's Tyler Buffett over the right field fence to push the Longhorns lead to 5-0.
Junior Patrick Mathis, who finished 2-for-5 in game two, added to the lead with a solo shot in the seventh to make it 6-0 in favor of the Longhorns.
That would be all that Cooper would need in the ballgame, as the redshirt-junior was dominant over seven innings of work.
Cooper was perfect for his first 3.2 innings before the Cowboys got a base hit. The right-hander would allow just two hits and one walk while striking out a career-high-tying 11 batters. In all, just one Cowboy reached second base off Cooper, and that came via a two-out steal.
Behind Cooper, Jake McKenzie entered and got two outs in the eighth. With two base runners aboard, Chase Shugart came on in a relief and kept the Cowboys off the board.
The Longhorns added one more in the ninth before Shugart shut the door.
Texas and Oklahoma State are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. on Saturday, though inclement weather is expected.
