Texas fell behind 2-0 but rallied for a 9-3 win over Oklahoma to take the Big 12 Conference series.
AUSTIN, Texas—The Clemens brothers led the way for Texas Baseball in a 9-3 Saturday afternoon win over No. 16 Oklahoma at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Kody Clemens hit a game-tying home run in the third inning and older brother Kacy Clemens launched a grand slam to break the game open in the fifth, giving the Longhorns a Big 12 Conference series win over the Sooners.
The Longhorns found themselves in trouble in the first frame as the first four Sooners reached base safely, including a bases loaded single that plated two and put Texas in an early 2-0 hole. Longhorns starter Morgan Cooper (4-2) responded, however, getting the next three in order to limit the damage.
In the bottom half, Travis Jones doubled with two outs in the frame and, after he advanced on a passed ball, scored on a Kacy Clemens single to pull Texas to within one.
After a scoreless second inning, it was Kody Clemens' turn. The sophomore designated hitter took a 1-0 offering from OU's Jake Irvin over the the left-center field wall to pull the Longhorns even at 2-2.
Cooper sat OU down in order in the fifth—with two punch outs—and his offense took control in the fifth.
With two outs in the inning, David Hamilton drew a walk and Kody Clemens followed with a double to put two in scoring position. A batter later, Tate Shaw singled off the OU reliever's foot to plate Hamilton and put the Longhorns out in front 3-2.
After Jones drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases, Kacy Clemens delivered the monster blow. The senior first baseman crushed a 2-1 pitch over the right field wall for a grand slam, the first of his career and the second for a Longhorn this season. The four-run dinger gave Texas a decisive 7-2 advantage in the ballgame.
In the sixth, Ryan Reynolds doubled with one out before Hamilton and Kody Clemens each drew a walk to load the bases once again. Like last time, a Tate Shaw infield single drove in a run and the Longhorns led it 8-2. Jones then hit into a fielder's choice and the Longhorns led it 9-2 after six.
OU got one back in the seventh but that would be all for the Sooners in the ballgame as freshman Blair Henley shut them down in his first career relief appearance.
The Longhorns will look to complete the series sweep tomorrow in a 2:30 p.m. CT game on LHN.
