Texas and LSU return to action on Saturday with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Alex Box Stadium.
BATON ROUGE, La.—On Friday night at Alex Box Stadium, No. 19 Texas Baseball (3-2) dropped the series opener to No. 23 LSU (3-2) by a 13-4 final.
A five-run first inning allowed the Tigers to get on top early and for good. Texas committed two errors in the frame and starter Nolan Kingham was unable to minimize the damage as he allowed four hits to put the Longhorns in an early hole.
Texas responded in the top of the second, however. DJ Petrinsky led off the inning with a base hit and with one out, left fielder Tate Shaw tripled to right-center to put the Longhorns on the board. Ryan Reynolds followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Shaw and cut the deficit to 5-2.
Thanks to four hits and a walk in the third, the Tigers broke things open. They managed three runs in the third, two in the fourth, and three in the sixth to put things out of reach for the Longhorns.
Texas plated a pair in the eighth thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Shaw and Michael McCann's first hit of the season, but the deficit would be too much to overcome.
Shaw, Petrinsky, and Kody Clemens each notched two hits in the game and Clemens also drew a pair of walks.
The Longhorns and Tigers return to action tomorrow with a 6:30 p.m. game. Right-hander Chase Shugart will get the start for Texas.
