The Longhorns rallied late but could not overtake the Razorbacks on Wednesday night.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Despite a late rally, Texas Baseball (9-9) dropped its Wednesday night game at No. 5 Arkansas (13-4) by a 7-5 final at Baum Stadium. Three Longhorns recorded multiple hits in the game but it was not enough to overtake the Razorbacks.

Texas scored first in the ballgame thanks to patience. Masen Hibbeler and David Hamilton drew back-to-back walks to start things off. Both would come around to score, Hibbeler thanks to an RBI groundout and Hamilton thanks to a wild pitch.

Up 2-0, freshman Nico O'Donnell went to work on the mound. After a scoreless first, Arkansas third baseman Casey Martin hit a solo homer to pull the Razorbacks within one.

After O'Donnell threw up another zero in the third, Arkansas used a big fourth inning to take the lead. The Razorbacks managed four runs in the frame thanks to three walks, three hits, and a pair of Longhorn errors.

Trailing 5-2, the Longhorns got one back in the top of the fifth thanks to a Kody Clemens RBI double. With bases loaded, however, a 6-4-3 double play ended the inning and the Texas threat.

Arkansas tacked on another run in the seventh but the Longhorns answered back in the eighth. Zach Zubia led off the inning with a double off the wall before Austin Todd and Ryan Reynolds hit consecutive singles to make it 6-4. With one away, Duke Ellis singled to left to score Todd and the Longhorns pulled within one. After Hibbeler was hit with a pitch to load the bases with two outs, a strikeout left the bases full.

In the bottom of the eighth, Arkansas regained its two-run lead and the Longhorns were unable to score in the ninth, ending the ballgame.

Texas opens up Big 12 Conference action this weekend with a three-game set against Kansas beginning Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
