Baseball drops series opener, 6-1, to Oklahoma State

Zach Zubia homered but the Longhorns mustered little else offensively against the Cowboys.
AUSTIN, Texas—Texas Baseball fell in its series opener, 6-1, to Oklahoma State on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns (13-10, 3-1) got their lone run off a Zach Zubia solo shot in the ninth, but it wouldn't be enough as they dropped their first Big 12 Conference game of the season.
Oklahoma State (11-8-1, 1-0) picked up its first run of the ballgame in the second when freshman catcher Jake Taylor singled through the left side to plate a leadoff walk.
Blair Henley (3-2) kept the Cowboys in check over the next two frames, but they added to their led in the fifth thanks to Taylor's first career home run.
Down 2-0, Texas could not manage to get its offense going and in the top of the seventh, Oklahoma State broke things open off Henley and Josh Sawyer. The first four batters in the frame reached on a triple, single, double, and homer, respectively to put Texas in a 6-0 hole.
Freshman Kamron Fields pitched two innings of scoreless relief while junior Chris Fearon tossed a scoreless frame.
The Longhorns avoided the shutout with a ninth inning Zubia solo homer and managed to load the bases with two outs in the frame, but a strikeout ended the Texas threat.
The teams return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. contest. Texas Football's Malik Jefferson is slated to throw the first pitch prior to game time.
