Men's Golf's Ghim named finalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award

Ben Hogan Award winner is one of five finalists for the 2018 Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol.
AUSTIN — University of Texas Men's Golf senior Doug Ghim is one of five finalists for the 2018 Division I Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol. Ghim joins Shintaro Ban (UNLV), Chandler Phillips (Texas A&M), Justin Suh (Southern California) and Norman Xiong (Oregon) on the list of finalists.
The winner of the Nicklaus Award will be announced May 31. The Award presentation will be held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, and presented by award namesake Jack Nicklaus during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide.
On Monday night, Ghim won the 2018 Ben Hogan Award, given to the top college golfer based on his play in the last year in both college and amateur competitions. He is listed among the top 10 in all four major ranking systems, including No. 1 in the Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking. Ghim is third in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is No. 10 in both the Golfweek/Sagarin Ranking and Golfstat College Ranking.
Last month, Ghim earned the Silver Cup as low amateur at the 2018 Masters Tournament. He was the only amateur to make the cut.
In his final collegiate season, Ghim owns a 69.54 scoring average over 28 rounds in 2017-18. He has three wins on the collegiate year, claiming medalist honors at the NCAA Raleigh Regional, the Big 12 Championship and the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. Ghim has seven top-10 finishes this year and has placed in the top 20 in eight of his nine events.
The winner of the Division I award, along with the four other divisional award winners (Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA), will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 16-22, at the Champions at Keene Trace in Lexington, Ky. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 2 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio – the same club where Jack Nicklaus first learned the game of golf as a young boy.
Ghim and the Longhorns begin play at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla., on Friday, May 25. Texas will begin its tee times at 1:37 p.m. CT on hole 1. Ghim also will compete the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course from June 14-17.
