No. 10 Men’s Golf goes 2-0 on day one of Big 12 Match Play

Texas earns six points with wins over WVU and TCU.
HOUSTON, Texas – Trio of Longhorns went 2-0 in their individual match-ups to guide No. 10 Texas Men's Golf on the first day of the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Friday as the team won matches over West Virginia and TCU to lead Pool A with six points.
Freshmen Mason Nome and Travis Vick, as well as, junior Christoffer Bring all went 2-0 in their individual match on Friday.
Nome, in his first collegiate action, took down Philipp Matlari of WVU, 5&4, and earned a win over Aymeric Laussot of TCU, 4&3.
Vick defeated Matthew Sharpstene of WVU by one hole, and followed it up with a 4&3 win over Justin Gums from TCU.
Bring continued his strong play with a 1UP victory over Logan Perkins of West Virginia, and followed it up with a dominating 6&5 win over Chris Berzina of TCU.
Senior Spencer Soosman opened with a win over Nico Lang of WVU, and went all-squared in his second match of the day with Gustav Frimodt.
Parker Coody opened the day with a tie against Mark Goetz and rebounded with the largest win of the day for Longhorns with an 8&7 win over Thomas Allkins.
Pierceson Coody added a 1UP win over Mateo Fernández de Oliveira of TCU.
With seven matches complete, Texas currently leads Pool A with 6 points while Texas Tech has 3 points. Kansas tops Pool B with 6 points. Baylor and Kansas State have 3 points each. Teams completed the first session of the day and three matches of the second session finished. Iowa State and Texas Tech will complete their match on Saturday morning, beginning at 7:30 a.m. CT. The third session is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, followed by session four at 2 p.m. CT.
Texas has a bye for the 8 a.m. start slot, and will play Iowa State at 1:30 p.m.
