Baseball's Elder named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

Longhorn sophomore honored for dominant Opening Day start.
AUSTIN, Texas – Following an opening-day gem, Texas sophomore right-hander Bryce Elder was named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Elder pitched eight innings and allowed just one run on four hits with no walks. He struck out nine batters in eight innings of work. After allowing a one-out infield single in the fifth, Elder retired the next 11-consecutive batters.
The Decatur, Texas product made one start last season and posted a 6-1 record with two saves in 22 appearances.
Texas returns to action Tuesday night against Rice at 7 p.m. in Houston. The Longhorns will open their home schedule this weekend, against Purdue, with the home opener set for Friday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
