AUSTIN, Texas – In No. 23 Texas Baseball's home opener at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, the Longhorns did not disappoint. Texas beat Purdue 7-2 on the back of another solid start by sophomore Bryce Elder.

Texas got the home slate off to a great start, scoring a pair of runs in the first inning. The Longhorns loaded the bases on walks from Eric Kennedy, Austin Todd and DJ Petrinsky. Ryan Reynolds provided the two-out, two-run single to drive in the first runs of the game.

Reynolds finished 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored, while also making a handful of great defensive plays. Petrinsky had another multiple-hit game, coming 2-for-3. Freshman Bryce Reagan finished the game 2-for-2 with two walks and one run scored in his home debut.

Purdue got a run back in the top of the fourth to trim the Texas lead to 2-1. The Boilermaker right fielder Johnny Sage hit a double to left-center and the ball was booted in the outfield allowing a run to score.

That was the only run Elder that would cross the plate with Elder on the mound. He went six innings and had six strikeouts with just the unearned run scoring.

Texas added a run to its lead in the fifth inning, when Michael McCann hit a two-out RBI single to score Reynolds.

Another Longhorn run came home in the sixth after Kennedy ended up at second base on an error to start the inning. A groundout moved him to third base and Zubia drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Cole Quintanilla came out of the bullpen to start the seventh inning and pitched a perfect frame with one strikeout. He finished by retiring all six batters he faced in two innings of work.

Texas expanded the lead to 7-1 in the seventh to put the game away. Hibbeler walked and later scored on a wild pitch. Austin Todd provided the big hit with a two-run triple to right-center field.
