No. 23 Baseball blasts Purdue 13-6 in Game 1 of doubleheader

Longhorns hit three homers and score season-high 13 runs.
AUSTIN, Texas – Behind a trio of homers, No. 23 Texas Baseball cruised to a 13-6 win over Purdue in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns dug themselves an early hole as Purdue started the scoring on Saturday with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Blair Henley bounced back in the second inning though, quickly retiring the Boilermakers in order with one strikeout. He finished with 6 2/3 innings pitched and four strikeouts, earning his first win of the season.
The Longhorn bats came alive in the bottom of the second, blasting two homers and scoring seven runs in the inning. Texas loaded the bases on a single by Ryan Reynolds and walks by Sam Bertelson and Lance Ford.
Michael McCann cleared the bases with a three-run double to left-center to tie the game up 3-3. On the next pitch, freshman Bryce Reagan broke the tie with his first career homer, a two-run shot to right field.
After a walk by Duke Ellis, Eric Kennedy delivered the second home run of the inning to make the score 7-3.
Purdue battled back into the game with a three-run fifth inning off of Henley.
Texas had an immediate answer, getting all three runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Longhorns started the inning with three-straight hits, with a single from Austin Todd, a double from DJ Petrinsky and a two-run double from Sam Bertelson. The hit and RBI were the first in Bertelson's career.
After a Purdue pitching change, Lance Ford drove in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Austin Todd extended the lead to 12-6 with a two-run homer to right field. The home run was the third of the game for the Longhorns.
Texas added one more run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by Tate Shaw.
Mason Bryant pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts. Donny Diaz pitched the final inning and struck out two batters.
