AUSTIN, Texas – No. 22 Baseball scored six runs in the fifth inning and cruised to a 10-3 win over Sam Houston State on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Ty Madden came out of the bullpen in the fifth and pitched four innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just one run on three hits. He picked up his first career win.

The Longhorns dug themselves an early 3-0 hole after Sam Houston scored two runs in the third and one run in the fifth. Matteo Bocchi made his first start of the season and allowed two runs on four hits in four innings pitched.

The Texas bats came alive in the fifth inning, batting around and scoring six runs on five hits to take a 6-3 lead.

It was an onslaught to start the inning, as DJ Petrinsky, Zach Zubia, Ryan Reynolds and Tate Shaw all started the inning with consecutive doubles to knot the game up 3-3.

After a pitching change, Michael McCann walked to put two runners on base. The go-ahead run came across by way of some heads up baserunning. Bryce Reagan struck out on a wild pitch and as the Bearkats' catcher attempted to throw to first, Shaw raced home to score.

Austin Todd punctuated the inning, with a two-run single to right field to cap the six-run frame.

Texas added four more runs in the sixth inning to make the lead 10-3. Shaw hit an RBI single up the middle and Reagan and Ellis both worked RBI walks.

Mason Bryant finished the game on the mound, pitching a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts.
