No. 13 Baseball drops close game at Incarnate Word

Longhorns unable to overcome early deficit.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – No. 13 Texas Baseball came up just short, 3-2, in a midweek contest at Incarnate Word Tuesday at Nelson Wolff Stadium.
The Longhorns (17-11, 3-3 Big 12) ended the game with the tying run at second after a ninth-inning double by freshman infielder Lance Ford.
Incarnate Word struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. With two runners on and two outs in the first, Matteo Bocchi came out of the bullpen to get the Longhorns out of jam.
Texas got a run back in the top of the second on an a sacrifice fly by Masen Hibbeler to drive in Zach Zubia.
The Cardinals got the run right back though in the bottom of the second inning after a leadoff single came around to score on an RBI groundout
The Longhorns scored on another sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to trim the lead to 3-2. Hibbeler singled, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a flyout by Michael McCann.
But that was all the scoring that would happen in the game.
Bocchi gave the Longhorns a chance, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He finished with a pair of strikeouts.
Whelan also had a solid outing, pitching two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Lance Ford went 2-for-4 with a ninth-inning double to try to spark a late Longhorns rally.
