Elder wins third weekly award of the season.
AUSTIN, Texas – For the third time this season, Texas Baseball sophomore Bryce Elder has been named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Elder struck out a career-high 13 batters in 7 2/3 innings pitched against No. 17 West Virginia. The sophomore carried a perfect game into the sixth inning and had a no-hit bid broken up with two outs in the seventh.
The Decatur, Texas, product allowed just five Mountaineer base runners in the game and allowed only two runs on two hits. The 13 strikeouts were the most by a Texas pitcher in a game since 2010.
This is Elder's third weekly award this season and it is the eighth time a Longhorn has received a Big 12 Conference weekly award in 2019.
Texas heads back on the road for its next four games, starting with a midweek contest against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field, home of the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks.
