The Longhorns fell to Oklahoma, 3-2-0, on Tuesday at the East Lake Golf Club.
ATLANTA – The Texas men's golf team was edged out by Oklahoma, 3-2-0, in the match play semifinals at the East Lake Cup on Tuesday.
The Longhorns had a 2-0 advantage after a pair of 5&4 wins by Cole Hammer and Pierceson Coody. Hammer built a three-up lead after nine holes and closed out his win by picking up two more holes at No. 12 and No. 14. Coody took the lead on the opening hole and never surrendered it. He went three-up on No. 10, and then won both the 13th and 14th holes to close out his win.
Parker Coody rallied from a three-down deficit with five to play to force extra holes, but was bested on the 19th hole. The same applied for Travis Vick, who lost a back-and-forth match in 19 holes to square the team score at 2-2.
Christoffer Bring battled in a back-and-forth contest of his own with Oklahoma' Quade Cummins, with neither golfer leading by more than two holes throughout the last match of the day. Cummins took a two-up lead with two to play, but Bring narrowed his deficit to one with a par on No. 17. He and Cummins both parred No. 18 though, giving the point and match to the Sooners.
The Longhorns conclude their week at the East Lake Cup on Wednesday with a consolation round of match play against Texas Tech. Due to expected weather in the area, tee times have been moved up and split tees will be used. The consolation matches will go off of the 10th tee starting at 7:30 CT. Golf Channel will have live coverage from the East Lake Cup from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CT.
