No. 9/4 Track and Field wraps first day of Tyson Invitational

The Longhorns posted several qualifying marks in Fayetteville on Friday.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 9/4 Texas Track and Field program posted a number of impressive marks on the first day of the Tyson Invitational on Friday.
Chanel Brissett continued to impress in her first season with the Longhorns, clocking a then-NCAA-leading 8.00 to lead the field in the 60-meter hurdles prelims. Her time was the second-fastest in UT history and 10th-best in the world this season. Tara Davis also advanced to Friday night's final with an 8.19, a mark that made placed her in Texas' top 10.
In the 60-meter hurdles final, Brissett and Davis finished second and fourth, respectively. Brissett clocked a 7.98 to improve her standing as the No. 2 Longhorn in the event, while Davis clocked an 8.15 to move up to No. 9 in UT history. Brissett's 7.98 and 8.00 on Friday are the second and third-fastest times ever record by a Longhorn in the hurdles. Florida's Grace Stark won the event at 7.96 to overtake Brissett's NCAA lead set in the prelims.
Stacey Ann Williams had her best outing of the season to date, clocking a 52.50 to finish fourth and move to No. 7 on the NCAA leaderboard this year in the 400-meter dash. It was the second-fastest quarter-mile for Williams, who earned All-America honors in the pandemic-shortened indoor season last year.
In the men's distance medley relay, sophomore Crayton Carrozza capped a winning effort for the Longhorns. Texas finished the race in 9:33.37 – the eighth-fastest time in school history, and fourth-fastest in the country this year. The team was made up by Carrozza, the anchor, along with Yusuf Bizimana, Paramveer Chohan and Brendan Hebert.
The Longhorns return to action at the Tyson Invitational on Saturday, the second and final day of the meet. Action begins at noon with the men's triple jump, and live coverage will be available on SEC Network+ at 1 p.m. CT when the women's 800-meter run gets underway.
