For the Texas men, Tripp Piperi continued to be the anchor for the Longhorns as a team with his dominance in the shot put. Piperi threw the shot 21.20m/69-6.75 on his first attempt to best the field by more than two meters. It was his seventh-straight win in shot put competition, and fourth in four tries this season. Piperi's throw on Saturday was the seventh-best by a Longhorn in the event, and he now owns five of the top 10 throws on Texas record.
